We bring more than 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors of historic buildings and areas management and regeneration.

Martin O'Rourke, the practice principal, has a Diploma in Environmental Design and is a Master of Art, Royal College of Art (MARCA). He worked as a conservation professional with the Greater London Council Historic Buildings Division, a conservation officer with Hertfordshire County Council and a Historic Buildings Inspector and Regional Regeneration Adviser for London Region of English Heritage. He also has more than 15 years experience as a private practitioner.

Martin is the consultant Director for Urban Conservation & Historic Buildings at Urban Initiatives.

Projects include regeneration and historic asset appraisals for: Woolwich civic core (London Borough of Greenwich) and Acton Town Hall civic core (London Borough of Ealing). Martin provides Historic Buildings and Conservation Area Appraisals for Rolfe Judd Planning when town planning commissions involve issues in the historic built environment.

All project work is closely supervised by Martin O'Rourke and a team of experienced professionals can be brought together to suit any size of project.

Advice on project design development in the historic environment, including negotiations with local authorities and English Heritage.
Analysis of individual historic buildings, including survey drawings and proposals for restoration and adaptation.
Conservation and historic building advice for Listed Building Consent applications, including evidence and representation at public inquiries.
Reports on buildings and characterisation studies of places, identifying regenerative value, special local character and potential new mixed uses for a sustainable future of the existing built assets.
Advice to individual building owners, local groups and amenity societies on conservation and regeneration issues.
